How to play Blackjack

Goal Of Blackjack: The goal of Blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without going over 21. The dealer will deal all players at the table 2 cards while dealing themselves one card up and one card down. Then you either hit (choose another card) or stand (stay with two cards) based on what your total is. All cards count as face value and ten through to kings count as ten. The aces can count as either 1 or 11.

Hit 21: You want to hit 21 or get as close to 21 without going over. If you hit and go over 21, your hand is immediately dead and you lose the bet. There are cases where you can stay with a weak hand depending on the dealers up card. The dealer must hit on anything under 16 and stay on totals of 17 or higher. Some casinos may allow the dealer to hit on a soft 17 which is a total of 17 with an Ace their hand.

No 6 Tip: If the dealer has a 6 showing, he is likely to hit and the chances of them going bust are much greater. It is a good strategy to stay regardless if you have 20 or 10 when the dealer has a 6 showing. This is just a basic strategy, but you can hit or stay whenever you wish. This blackjack strategies article goes into more detail on the techniques you can employ to improve your hand

Why play Blackjack

Low House Edge: Blackjack gives the player some of the best odds in a casino. All games have a house advantage built tin which means the casinos will win more than they lose over the long run. Some games have much higher house edges than others but online casino blackjack has the lowest house advantage coming in at only 1.5%. Compare this to other games such as Caribbean Stud that has a 10% house edge and you can see why blackjack has become such a popular online casino game with South Africans

Online Blackjack

Practice For Free: Online Blackjack is very similar to its live counterpart and has the same rules. The only difference being you are playing online versus in a live casino. Online blackjack is a great way to learn the game as you can first play for free on a demo account, moving to play for real money when you feel comfortable with the game.

Variations of Blackjack

Depending on which casino you visit, you may find different rules. Some casinos use more decks than others, you may also find that you can’t double down or split certain cards. The rules will always be laid out on the table so you know exactly what they are. Casinos also include different types of blackjack games including  double attack blackjack, Spanish 21 and pontoon, all being variations of the original blackjack game
